Stephen Chesney - Partner
Stephen Chesney has been at Duffield Stunt (and the former Stunt & Son) since 1973 and a partner since 1978. Throughout that time he has had a versatile career and for many years, in addition to handling work in the office, was a Police Station and Magistrates Court Duty solicitor.
Stephen is a member of Resolution, (formerly Solicitors’ Family Law Association) and now heads the Family Law Department as well as handling wills and probate matters. He loves meeting new clients. Face to face contact with people is a very enjoyable aspect of his job. Married with three grown up sons, he plays the piano and organ. A member of the Lawyers` Christian Fellowship he is a lay preacher.
His hobby is mid-1960s offshore (pirate) radio nostalgia.

Nicholas Welch - Partner
Nick qualified as a Solicitor in 1980 and was a partner in Winckworth & Pemberton from 1984 (Chelmsford and Westminster offices) until opening his own practice in Chelmsford in 1998, later merging to become Duffield Stunt.
For many years Nick advised a major housebuilder specialising in redevelopment work in London, in both private and social housing schemes. He has worked for varied clients including NHS trusts, housing associations, ecclesiastical and law enforcement authorities.
Since establishing his own firm, Nick has applied his broad range of knowledge and experience to matters for individuals and SMEs, including commercial and residential property matters, business transactions and wills & probate.
Nick’s interests are country walks, ski-ing and music.

Travers Harpur - Consultant
Travers qualified in 1969. Since his retirement in 2006 as a long-standing partner of Duffield Stunt (and the former Stunt & Son) he has continued with the firm as a part time consultant. He deals with wills, probate and trusts.
Travers is a lay reader in the Church of England and chairman of a medical missionary charity.

Richard Tattersall - Consultant
Richard heads up the firm's Civil Litigation Department. He has worked as a consultant for the firm for several years. After qualifying as a solicitor in 1974, Richard has spent his professional career working in Essex, including more than 25 years running his own practice. He has extensive experience in civil litigation, with a particular interest and expertise in personal injury claims and is a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel.
In his spare time he indulges his passion for archaeology.

Lucy Nicholas - Assistant Solicitor
Lucy qualified in 1989 and has practised in residential conveyancing law for a many years providing a wealth of experience, covering Freehold and Leasehold sales and purchases and including Buy-to-Let properties with particular knowledge of Shared Ownership and Equity Release schemes.

Linda Chew
After training with a London firm, Linda joined Duffield Stunt in 2005. Linda specialises in non-contentious commercial and residential property including acquisition and sales of all types of businesses and property matters.
Interests are gardening, travelling and classical guitar.

Ann Bennett-Helps - Assistant Solicitor
Ann qualified as a Solicitor in 2004 after a successful career teaching Economics and Maths. After qualifying Ann has specialised in Elderly Client Law gaining extensive experience in Wills, Probate and Court of Protection work.
Interests are gardening, cooking and travel.
